Updated Resources: COVID-19, Family Leave Toolkit, and New-Parents and Pregnant Employees Advisor

In February and March 2021, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing released or updated the following resources:

  • COVID-19 Employment FAQs, which were updated March 4, 2021, to include guidance about vaccinations beginning on page 7. For instance, under the FEHA, an employer can require employees to get an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccination so long as the employer doesn’t discriminate against or harass employees or job applicants based on a protected characteristic, provides reasonable accommodations related to disability or sincerely-held religious beliefs or practices, and does not retaliate against anyone for their protected activities (like requesting a reasonable accommodation). The vaccination FAQs are on pages 7 – 10.
  • Family Leave Toolkit, which covers family and medical leave and pregnancy disability leave (fact sheets, posters, certification forms, and reference guides).
  • New-Parents Rights Advisor to help when an employee needs time off from work due to pregnancy or for child bonding.
