COVID-19 and Safe Reopening

On July 31, 2020, the California Department of Public Health updated its COVID-19 Employer Playbook For a Safe Reopening to require employers to contact the local health department in any jurisdiction where an employee lives when there is a COVID-19 workplace outbreak. An outbreak is three or more laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a two-week period among employees who live in different households.

California's Health Exchange: What It Means for CA Small Businessess

The California Chamber of Commerce today released its latest edition of CalChamber News featuring information about Covered California, the state’s health exchange.  Covered California is the first-in-the nation online health insurance marketplace established under the Affordable Care Act.  It will help individuals and small businesses compare health plans, get answers to questions, find out if they qualify for federal tax credits and enroll in a plan that meets their specific needs.

Government Offers Grants for Workplace Wellness Programs

As California moves toward implementation of the Affordable Care Act, wellness programs that promote healthy choices to prevent illness are in the spotlight of the latest edition of CalChamber News.

Under the law, federal grants may be available to some small businesses to offset the cost of established wellness programs, and insurance companies must provide wellness services, such as counseling and health screenings, at no extra cost to the employee.

Companies such as Safeway have made the investment and launched a workplace wellness program long ago, encouraging workers to take personal responsibility for their health.

Health Law Guide for Business is designed to provide accurate and easy to understand information on federal health care reform. The website’s motto is “2,409 pages. One simple web site.”
